Oracle VirtualBox: Change Disk UUID

This is my first post after my blog was recognized by feedspot as one of the Top 100 Oracle blogs https://blog.feedspot.com/oracle_blogs/ .

I’m really happy of this recognition, and I hope I’ll continue providing high quality content and sharing a real oracle experience, thanks feedspot.

Coming back to our subject today. I have a valuable VirtualBox disk that contains Oracle Grid Infrastructure 12cR2 and Oracle Database 12cR, and I want to reuse this disk in another virtual machine for other tests.

When I tried to attach this disk to a new machine, I received the following error:

This error is norml, as we cannot have two disks in a VirtualBox environment with the same UUID.

So, how we can change the UUID of the second copy of this disk?

It is very simple process:

1- Open CMD window as administrator.

2- cd C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox

3- Issue the following command to change the disk UUID:

C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox>VBOXMANAGE.EXE internalcommands sethduuid “F:\12.2DB_OracleRestart\DB122-disk1.vdi”

Now, I’m able to attach this disk copy to my new machine:

That is all.
